Is a powerhead to much for a 12 gallon?

Ok i have a 12 gallon eclipse as most of u already know and i want to get a powerhead beacuse i am not gettin enough movement in my tank but my dad says it is a waste of money what do u think?:help:

Good circulation is vital and IMO,certainly not a waste of money. I run a mini-jet 404 in my 20g in addition to my EclipseII system. It's not too overpowering at all. In fact, the flow is adjustable.

i got another ? my filter has alot aof sand paticles when i clean it can i use regular tap water?:help:

You mean to clean it?
I usually swish mine in the water I take out during a water change.

Running it under the tap probably will not hurt it. Just shake the excess water out before you replace it.
