Here is the question:
Would you want to keep taking a bath in the same bathwater...day after day and week after week, every day...even if it was clear?
I would doubt it :)

There is nothing quite like wallowing in your own waste for the indefinite future.

All kidding aside you should do a water change at least every other week. Every week is a more prudent route to go, and if you have a heavy bioload probably the better way to go

Sounds like your tank is overstocked.
And YES. Water changes are very neccessary.

It sound like I am - but I am not joking with the "wallowing in waste" scenario. If you wouldn't do it, don't make your fish do it.
Would you leave your dog in a yard and never clean up its waste? Nope. Same is true of fish. While some of the waste is "converted" by other animals, in the end, some accumulates.
Water changes, IMO, are absolutely necessary.

Not changing tank water is more like bathing in the commode.

Love this thread.

Water changes are part of having a saltwater tank. If you don't want to do them, don't have a salt tank. JMHO.

i agree, change water is the best way to replace all the trace elements plus you don't need to buy bunch of addictive because your salt water has all the quality that require by the fish.
