Is an super exspensive light nessary

I was at the fish store looking for an new light cause my hole thing broke light frame and all i was gona buy an light for an coral but they were 250$ is there any cheaper

really depends on what you are wanting to keep in the tank some thing require more light than other things hence the more intense light is need.
are going with mushrooms and softies and polypsand LPS corals??

I'd say thats about the minimum you can expect to pay to light a 55 gallon reef. If you dont have a canopy and are looking at buying a fixture (self contained lighting unit) which it sounds like you were looking at you definately arent going to be able to go much cheaper (unless you chose a brand of questionable quality).

YOu really need to research and decide. You may not be able to keep "all sorts of things" so before spending money, to the research, and make one purchase instead of the wrong one.

I just bought a satellite light for my 4 ft long 55 gallon and it cost me around $250. 2 actinic and 7,000 k lamps. So i say that's about around what you would pay unless you get second hand from
