While RO water is best, distilled water is fine for top-offs. :D

Same here, I refill jugs at walmart, but they charge 33 cents at mine grrrr.
Make sure you check the PH of your topoff water. The water at walmart has a PH of 7. This may lower your tank's PH over time and require additives.
ps- the water from the RO machine at walmart is better than a home RO unit. It does carbon filtration, UV sterilization, reverse osmosis, ozone, and one more I think. Gets expensive though, about $3 a week.

I was doing the same thing, except I was spending $40.00 per month. I soon realized that a decent R/O D/I filter would pay for itself in less that three months. In addation, I did not have to lug 30 gallons of H20 from the store into my truck and then from my truck to the garage. The hastle of not having to do this one time wasa worth the $ 130.00. You can get them for as little as $70.00, or as much as $400.00.

I am thinking about getting r/o unit too, When we build our new house, our utility room will have a sink i can hook up to. then we can use the water to drink too.

They say that for every gallon of water that is processed through an RO unit, 2 gallons of water goes directly down the drain. So for those who have their own Ro units, I wonder how much money they are really saving if any? I would think they are flushing a lot of money down the drain. I would think that the LFS could sell it cheaper because they deal in volume? I've never sat down and figured out how much we pay per gallon for water, maybe I should? LOL
