Is extremely poor grammar grounds to be made fun of?

He was actually complaining about people who don't know the difference between hole and whole, and similar examples, posting on his FB page. I don't do FB but if I did, I'd rather not have illiterates posting on my page.
Communication is such it is immediately available due to internet. Clem commented about wanting his kids to grow up in a more intelligent environment, where people strive to do better, not sound like an ignoramus. To be honest, I think that is something every parent might want to care about where their own kids are concerned. Of course, I'm not talking about people with language disabilities, or dyslexia, etc. But, you know what, if I had that disability, I would make every effort to have the tools I need to work around my problem when communicating.
We are not talking about typos or a few misspelled words, we are talking about being dumb downed.

Agree, but that is not the way that he presented the thread in the first place. He came here angry asking if being ignorant to proper grammar is grounds to make fun of. I'd say sure if you're looking to get your butt kicked. But if you wouldn't make fun of someone to their face about it then you really just sound like a boob. And then go on about fatty foods while he peddles cup cakes to the public? I just find it all a little bit to hypocritical for my taste is all.
It's not that hard to silence other peoples news feeds on your facebook page so that you dont have to see it if it makes you that angry. And I do agree that much of what people post on their is rediculous. I dont use it myself for the fact that I really dont care to hear a minute by minute updates to the fact that someone just woke up and is now drinking coffee and then an hour later find out that their having a big mac at mcdonalds and oh btw, it tastes really good. I mean seriously?
But then again it is a social site.

Thank you Beth. That was my whole point. I have a very good feeling most (and yes I say most, not all) of these people are perfectly capable of learning, creating, and generally being able bodied and of mind to try harder, and yes, even succeed. You think I'm some amazing success story because I had a silver spoon? Hardly. My grandpa could barely read, his wife was even worse. Their daughter (my Mother) barely, and I mean barely got out of high school. I remember at a very young age, that I didn't want to be like that, and I busted my butt to make sure I learned everything I could in school. And for the record, I went to a school that is considered high risk and urban.
I'm not saying that everyone should be a grammar Nazi. I'm not saying I expect everyone to get everything right all the time. I'm just saying that I wish people cared more. I wish people took more pride in what they do with their daily lives. I wish more parents were appalled if their children aren't at least trying.
I'm curious why I get labeled as a jerk, or a bully, or whatever else you called me... all because I actually want to see not only myself, but everyone
try to better themselves. I wish less people had the "oh well, what can you do?" attitude, and more of the "screw conventional wisdom, I'm going to do what I think is right" attitude.
I think I'm starting to see what some conservatives mean when they say that people are becoming so dependent on someone else (or the government) to take care of them, that they just don't seem to want
to work harder. My grandpa, who is now 86 years old, doesn't get much from his social security check. He lives well below the poverty line. He 100% would qualify for assistance if he actually applied. But you know what? He never has. Because his pride is much bigger than that. While at the same time, the family of seven across the street... they (the mom and whoever the boyfriend du jour is) haven't worked in at least two years, and they're not only ok, but almost proud to cash those government checks every month.
I know this all started about being being lazy and dumb downed with grammar on Facebook, but I think it represents a much bigger issue. So if you want to call me a bully, jerk, mean guy or whatever you want, have at it. I'm still going to care, and I'm still going to do the best I can with what I've got.
p.s. - Yes, I own a cupcake bakery. So does that somehow mean I'm supposed to condone obesity? I can only assume that's what you meant with your snarky comment.

Lol....... I believe in what your saying Clem, and I also believe that with each generation a little slacking takes place in parenting but ultimately it falls on the parents and children both to make the right decisions. My grandparents were afraid for their future with their kids and now it's our parents turn to be afraid and it will be our turn soon. all in all everything seems to work out in the end.

What I mean is that when you say things like this then it's hard for me to take the rest of what you said seriously. Kind of like saying that drug dealers don't condone usage. It's fine as long as you don't abuse it.
I really don't disagree with with the point you're trying to make here. But if you're going to put youself out here in this way then you should be able to take your licks like everyone else. :)

Obesity can be a whole other discussion issue, but I'm sure that "condone" would not be the best choice of words. If you mean you'd like to see Americans apply more efforts as individuals to do things in their lives, or their kids lives, to avoid or address obesity, then that's a better way to express.
People who are obese should not be judged. They are actually the silently discriminated against in this country which is nothing to be proud of. They have had a lot of help getting to the obese stage and their is a lot of medical support for generics as well.
Off topic: You know, I try to stay clear of the sweet shops so I've never actually seen a shop that just sold cupcakes. Is their really a big market for that? I can see a pastry shop doing great, but a shop that just sold one pastry is kinda amazing. How many types of cupcakes do you have?

I have to agree with Corey on this 1.....Clemson you sound like my boss every morning...."Tuck your shirt in".......I understand you wanting and expecting better, but not everyone shares that same thought.....Honestly who cares how the kids text or chat between themselves as long as they are respectful, law abiding people and can hold an intelligent conversation and have a job!!!!!! Your gonna tell me that growing up you didn't have some slang or such that you used......
Actually we should always push kids to use proper grammar, even in texts. It creates a bad habit that can work it's way into regular writing. Spelling out words helps you to memorize them. When I finished school I couldn't spell crap if I had a mouth full (A saying my mom used to use with a different word) My spelling really got good once I starting engaging in politics. I wrote a lot of brochures and ghost wrote dozens if not hundreds of letters to the editor for campaigns. I mean thank god for spell checker but after a year or so of right clicking the squiggly red lines I got pretty good at spelling. My spoken grammar has always been pretty good. I trip up on the me, myself and I stuff but who doesn't?

I think you'll find a lot of successful people who's parents were poorly educated. However those poorly educated parents tend to be people who were self employed or had a successful work history even if they didn't make a lot of money. You don't have to be a PHD to set a good example for your children.

We have around 85 flavors at any given time. There's a lot of seasonal stuff too, so the menu switches around pretty frequently. And yes, I pinch myself every day I get to work, realizing that this is what I do for a living! :) It's really all about a quality product (we are five star rated on Yelp) and an aggressive social marketing presence. We're almost to 10,000 likes on Facebook and Twitter, which helps immensely.
The other cool thing about it, is whatever is left at the end of the day either goes to the local food bank, or a number of churches we work with, who all feed the homeless. I like to think that it's kind of a small treat for them... usually it's bread, soup, boxed potatoes. Then comes in a Raspberry Almond, or Chocolate Peanut Butter Kiss cupcake!

That's great! I don't have much to add to this topic other than to say that I too, am a bit of a grammar nazi but I don't call people out on it very often. I pride myself on my ability to spell and on my grammar and I attribute it 100% to the fact that I am a voracious reader. My father always had books all over the house and I was encouraged from a very young age to read. I think I was probably around 9 when I finished my first 750 page book and from then on I was hooked on the written word.

No kidding, if you can find a way to make a cupcake "healthy" or even gluten-free, and good, then you'd make a killing.

AND you wouldn't be a contributor to one of the issues that you don't condone.
Sorry, couldn't help myself.

By killing you mean spark mass suicides do to lack of flavor in one's life?
