Is it because I'm getting old and soft....

or is it because of all the mini series, movies and Greg's much loved History and Military channels and thus the heightened awareness.....
.... I cry about war.
I was standing at the Armed Forces Parade crying looking at all of them in their uniforms. Their were some vets in nice cars and I was taking pictures like they were movie stars. Not that I need 60 pictures of each guy... but because I wanted him to know how important I think he is. I just wanted to run through the parade and tell them all THANK-YOU.

The funeral of a veteran when the honor guard with pomp and circumstance fold the flag that once draped the coffin, then hands it to the widowparent. Sorry but I do and have always cried at that point. Such a beautiful gesture.

No matter who's funeral it is....If they play TAPS...everyone will cry. TAPS always gets me. Held it together well for my grandfather's funeral until they played TAPS for him.

.

It isn't the war....it is the sacrifice of serving.
Some soldiers never see a battlefield...but they receive the same courtesy and respect from myself as those that have been on a battlefield.

For me it's when someone does something nice for a soldier. I remember the 70's, it's a nice change.

Oh yes indeed... actively fighting or not... they all sign up for the same thing.
Your very right about the sacrifice of serving.... that's a good way to put it. A lot of times after the war is over... the sacrifice continues.....
If anyone watched The Pacific... the last episode when he was going to look for work.... so sad.
Did you ever stop and think where our population would be now if those wars never happened? Besides protecting our country, they probably made it possible for us to leave on this earth a little longer. We'll outgrow it and it's resources soon enough.

oh jeeze, I am totally with you. Here in STL there is a group from the local "hog" /motorcycle chapter that gathers at ALL of their members to assemble at funeral processions to escort our fallen to their resting place. It is a sight to see. I have witnessed it a few times here. Most of them are Vets and some are not, but they all take their time to pay their respects. I have seen this a few times when traffic has been stopped and it is something to behold. Flags on every bike, average joes riding them, some not so average, and then the hearse, etc. These folks try to make it to every unfortunate funeral in the area. (sadly it started a few years ago when a group of crazies decided to picket every soldiers funerals with signs of hatred.....sooooo nasty...you wouldn't believe the signs these people picket with, they don't even know the person being laid to rest, but use their burial to further their "cause')

Anyway, I am with you, I have kids that are most of these kids age. Heck the Marines called here the other day. Yikes. My dad is a totally decorated green beret Colonel in the Army who went to Viet Nam 4 times. He was lucky/survived. So I look at these kids and wonder if there were less politics in the world
where we would be. Where the world would be.........

I already told my wife that if something happened to our son over there and those loons show up to the funeral she is going to have to deal with me being gone too cause murder is a crime in this country. She said she would reload for me.

Not that I am defending those morons but I find it even more chilling when your access to information is limited by someone's definition of intolerance and hate. I wonder if Louis Farrakhan's website it blocked.
Hmmm....good call....nope, not blocked

Gee, no political agenda there. That right there is what drives me nuts about the political correctness movement. It's more about pushing a particular school of thought than opening minds.

+1
My grandpa was awarded dureing a small parade in his community (retired) last memorial day. Every year they Honer their vets and every year there are fewer and fewer in attendance. It breaks my heart to know that soon there wont be any WWII vets left.
My grandpa never talks about his war experences, never braggs or boasts or complains about his hardships, which amazes me since he was a german POW for 2 years and survived his B-24 liberator getting shot down.
Our Soldiers, past and present are an amazing breed of people who deserve our utmost respect and courtousy.IMO anyway.
sorry for the spelling
