Some clowns are just weird and unnatural.

I just got two clowns and they prefer my purple shrooms over my RBTA.
BTW, your clowns are ocellaris instead of percula.

Long time ago I had some false percs that did the same thing, loved the star polyps. Funny to even watch them spit flake food into it. And yep Ocellaris clowns.

How can you be 100% sure that those are false percs and not true ones?... Not all true percs have a black mark in the middle.... What's a sure fire way of knowing?
And yes it is perfectly normal for clowns to host other corals instead of an anemone. Other good hosting corals include, various leathers, bubble coral, elegance coral, or mushrooms...etc. I've heard of some hosting a protein skimmer intake!

All the black bands on these fish are smaller, whereas the True perc has larger bands, but to be 100% sure I'd have to count the fin bones on each.
Amphiprion ocellaris
Dorsal spines (total): 10-11; Dorsal soft rays (total): 13-17; Anal spines: 2-2; Anal soft rays: 11-13. Easily identified by the orange color and three white bands, the middle one widening forward to the head centrally. Caudal fin rounded.
Amphiprion percula
Dorsal spines (total): 9-10; Dorsal soft rays (total): 14-17; Anal spines: 2-2; Anal soft rays: 11-13. Overall orange with three black-bordered vertical white bands. The fins also orange with black edges. The black on the percula is more noticeable being thicker bands most of the time on the common colored species.
