Is it ok to eat filter floss?

Hey -
I just cleaned out my canister filter and added some filter floss (first time). When I turned it on a lot of the fibers flew out into the water. My fish ate some... Do you think everything will be ok?

That would be hard to say. How big were the fish that ate them, and how big were the pieces of floss? Also, do you know what it is made of?

not much you can do about it at this point regardless of the complications. Id just focus on avoiding a reoccurance.

It is polyester fiber. The fish are 2" (solar fairy) and 5" (razor goby). How do you keep this from happening. I've never used filter floss.

can you maybe try rinsing it before putting it in your filter, or you can try putting a fine mesh net at the exhaust when you turn it on to catch the debree before it can go out into the tank

the floss is just for mech filtration, right?
if so, i wouldnt bother with it to begin with, stick a polyfilter on
a powerhead for a few hours every few days.
good luck.
