I have a 80 gallon tank, and I have been thinking about getting a fire goby. I read that these fish jump when frightened, and our tank does not have a top, will it be ok, or should we screen the top, or get a aquarium top? Nice answers please, thankyou.

IDK what else you have in your tank, BUT firefish are very skiddish....If you really want one I would screen in the top

People always say firefish are jumpers, but mine has never made any suicide attempts *knock on wood* Make sure you keep with passive/peaceful fish

I have 2 and they never even really go to the top of my tank! They are quite skittish though. My tank is covered except for across the back where the filter hangs, so I am not sure if they would have jumped without a lid or not.

I had a couple for nearly a year with no problems, then one day I find a little body on the floor. I think the other lasted a long time before he took the plunge as well. They are not as bad to jump as a wrasse is. But they can move so fast...that's why they call them dart fish I guess...if they aim just right..they go airborn.
