I have a Bak Pak2 CPR skimmer and it's kinda loud. So i was wondering if i could turn it off or either turn the air intake down so there wouldn't be any bubble and it would be quite while i sleep
Well it depends how quicly your tank will produce so much of the bioload and how much you feed each day as long your tank can substain itself during the night it should be okay. But yeah too much of an off an on isn't too good for the skimmer maybe you should figure out how to elimate the noise or relocate the tank or something.
Turning it on and off continuously will definitely wear it down and is definitely something to be avoided. I don't know what to tell you, but turning it on and off is not a good idea either.
You may want to consider relocating the tank to a place where no one sleeps.
If the above is not an option, you can always take back the CPR and get a different skimmer. CPR's aren't the greatest anyway.
I would personally put it on a timer, that way you cant forget to turn it back on. Easiest way to tell if its a problem, try it out do water parameters, then check it a few days after trying it off at night. I had a MJ that was on a timer w/o any problems for over a year w/o any problems, besides u can get a new one pretty cheap if u wear it out. BUT id highly suggest the timer so u dont have to worry about forgetting to turn it on.
i always have a sleeping problems the first few nights of any equiptment changes. but its better off to just let them run. you wont have to worry about any bioload build up at night and the replacement of pumps.
Oh ya your the one that had the problem with the lfs and waiting 4 weeks for a skimmer right? So how that turn out and hdid they cut you a deal on it? You still planning on useing that lfs?
