i would like to start a nano tank specifically to keep a small snowflake eel just until it gets larger then put it into my big tank my only fear is that the tank may be too small for a small eel. are my fears correct.?

I kept a 7 inch snowflake in a 5 gallon for a month and it was fine...Just make sure you give it some PVC pipes...Mine loved them! TIGHTLY CLOSED LID!!!!! Mine pretty must crawled out while I was watching luckily. -Greg

Question
If I were to do the same thing (I'm starting a 10 gallon nano) could I keep it with corals and another fish or 2???

That depend on your filtration. All fish in a small tank are big bio loads and an eel is a huge bio load. What's your filtration going to be on the tank? -Greg

If I were you I'd get a nano cube...they range in price from about 50-100 depending on if they're used, new, and size. I donno if they come with hoods but I know you can buy a hood with filtration, reef lighting, and everything needed except a skimmer which you will want for a mini reef. With a 10 gallon tank you will probably want 10 pounds livesand and 10-20 pounds liverock. -Greg

Any time...BTW if you don't want to buy a nano cube and spend the money I'd just buy a 5 1/2 gallon, glass top, 12 inch 36 watt coralife aqualight, and a skilter 250 if you don't mind the noise. That and 10 pounds LR and 5-10 pounds LS would be enough filtration for a sweet nano reef but no eel if you did that.

Not sure about corals...search for a post called reefeels tank I think...He's got a reef tank with a SFE. As far as fish goes...I've kept damsels, clowns, tangs (not in your tank), gobies, blennies, and a jawfish with a SFE with no problems but some eels can be aggressive so be carefull. Hope that helps-Greg

I had 3 eels in my tank that Im making into a reef. Everything was going good but I took 2 of them out and put them in a 20L only because I didnt want my new angler and nudibranch to be eaten. I have not had a problem with the 3 eels in my 29g and even when my condi's dies and killed everything in my tank, the eels still thrived.

Oh, I still have a huge eel (around 13") and the only think that I cant have in the tank is cleaner shrimp because they will be eaten. I have crabs and snails and my nudibranch and everything is fine
