IMO...nope. Then again, I'm a reefer.

How big is the eel? how big are the fish going to be ? I have all glass tops and don't use egg crate at all so if you have that don't worry. Eels are a good eye catcher when someone is looking at your tank and it sticks its head and starts the breathing with its mouth and they say look at that sweet. I also like feeding time watching them thrash around when they get food too.

very cool to have an eel, if your into aggressive fish then its worth it,

There really isn't much difference between having a snowflake eel and any other fish. They don't eat their tankmates and they aren't aggressive. Like Moto said, an all glass top is secure enough for them. Though they do hide often.

I agree with Moto, I have glass tops and a canopy cover and I don't use Egg crates. I did take clear 1/2" airline hosing and slit in on one side and place it arounf the top of my overflow.
But I agree, my SFE is awesome and probably my favorite at feeding time. I say ABSOLUTELY worth it!

I am not sure how absolute that is. A snowflake that I had in my 75 ate and killed my blue head wrasse, dragon wrasse, and took a huge chunk out of the face of my v-tailed grouper.

!!!! well i was gonna put him in with 2 black saddle backs, yellow tang, coral bauty.. the sfe would be the last one in there to give everyone else some time to grow

that would be an awfully crowded 55. Instead of the yellow tang I would get a larger basslet or something 3-5 inches. Those eels can get big.

Get a golden basslet. Mean little sucker, extremely hardy, and solid yellow, and it won't outgrow the tank.

Thats not to overcrowded, just stay on top of the tank and make sure you have a bunch of LR and skimmer, the coral beuty and yellow tang are the only ones that will swim about the whole tank activly

Nothing is for sure. I had a yellow tang kill a dragonet, blenny, and clownfish. But I wouldn't say they are fish killers. I just got a bad one. SFE's are normally very passive and if fed properly will leave other tank mates alone.

Maybe a dwarf lion but he shouldn't add another angel and I'd skip the trigger idea. Triggers and small, fully stocked tanks don't mix.

HaLo_Frk03, are you looking for fish to add to this list? If so, you should stick to small (under 6") passive fish. Anthias, small wrasses, hawkfish, chromis.
