is lfs full of it?

A new lfs opened up. actually he was a wholesaler who now sells to the public. He tells me that they treat all their fish with copper and are qurantined for 2 weeks before sale. So whatever I by today I can throw in the tank that day, that quarantining the fish at home will just cause more stress. Been researching this site for a week and everyone agrees that fish should be qurantined for 4 weeks. Do I trust this lfs' procedure? I understand most lfs dont treat their fish and dont quarantine, so I am wondering if this is some over-the-top lfs or full of it?

I'd still quarantine, at least until you build a rapport with the vendor and become confident in their procedures.
I've NEVER seen an LFS quarantine fish. Copper yes.. QT no.
... an once or prevention ...

Thursdays... huh?
We're talking about Aquarium Showcase, aren't we?
maybe not... I understand that the wholesalers get new fish in on Thursdays, so maybe lots of area stores have Thursday fish day.
It's amazing how stores sell fish that are obviously in horrible shape at full price. I once saw a sailfin tang with the worst case of HLLE I've ever seen. They were trying to sell him at full price. Once there was an Imperator ridden with ich, full price. Kole tangs with the usual bad mouth damage... full price.
Seems like if they are selling fish that are a charity case, they should put them into an "as is" tank and sell them at half price or less, just to get them out of there. That horrid sailfin sat in their systems for weeks before he was either sold or died. How bad do you think that makes their systems look, having a fish like that in there

Hey, I 'm in Clearwater and I am always looking to check out new LFS's. What is the place and where is it? As far as trusting them, I question everything. This site will give you thousands of reasons to quarantine.

He may very well do as he says. I know plenty of stores that do. Most stores I know do keep copper in fish only systems. As far as what he says you should do is his opinion. I'd still QT.

Well if he is so sure about his fish being safe, ask him if he guanetees that the fish would not die, and that he would need to guarentee all the fish in your system against them catching something from a fish you just plop in there. I bet he tells you NO!!!, And that is how sure he is that his fish are 100% safe.

No, that is not a good indication because we are still dealing with living animals. No one can guarantee a fish is going to live. Even if he quarantines them the best as possible, they could still come down with ich. How does he know that you quarantined all of your fish? Ich might be in your tank even before introducing this new fish. And even if it does not come down with ich, that does not mean it is going to live. How does he know you acclimated it properly, have the proper water levels, have the right tank mates, etc. etc. If I was selling a fish to someone, I would NEVER guarantee it to live, even if I was pretty confident that it was a healthy fish.

QT also allows you to monitor your fish, let it get accustomed to captivity, and gets used to your feeding.
No magic bullets....
