Is my LFS Correct?

I just got back from my LFS that is strictly a SWA dealer and I was getting things for my new 50g tank. She said I did not need a filter cause the LR and LS act as a filter. Just about everyone in this forum I believe has some sort of filter or sump. Am I just confused or is she wrong?

you dont have to have a filter. but it comes in very handy to run carbon and add more circulation to your tank

yeah, I would be mainly concerned with running a protein skimmer...
your LR and LS will metabolize ammonia waste ...
i would only use a power filter occasionally to (like jnj said) run carbon etc.
Get a protein skimmer before you get a power or canister filter...

My only question is how much lr and ls do you have?? IMO if your not going to run a filter you should have 1-2 pounds of lr per gallon

you really dont need a filter just a good skimmer and plenty of water movement, all you need to have is a good amount of LR and a DSB and thats about it

AquaC Remora is hands down the best for that size tank. I love mine!
