Is my puffer sick?

He has only been home for 2 days but he lays at the bottom of the tank under a rock kinda hidden....and he wont eat. Is he sick?

Did he puff when you got him? How did he get transferred from the tank at the LFS to your aquarium?

he hasnt puffed any until a few minutes ago...i tried to put a frozen shrimp unpeeled in the tank near him and he puffed a little and went right back down. I drove over 2 hrs to get him because none of the lfs around here get them. I called before time so they had him ready when I got there. When I got him home, I let him float for 30min then opened bag and added 1/2 cup of water from tank into bag ever 10min until bag was filled. Total about 8 times. then took him out with a net and put in my tank.

well first off, thats the completely wrong way to acclimate the puffer, drip system works best, if you puffer is fairly new, this is common, it just got pulled outa the ocean and put into a tank, what do you expect ><. my puffer has never puffed, but you might want to check your parameters, from what I understand, if any of them are off, it may cause more stress.

ok I will check my water parameters, I checked them yesterday and they were all good. I acclimated him that way because thats how the lfs told me to do it and since I am new at this I didnt know.

ok i checked water:
amonia...0
nitrite....0
nitrate 20
ph.....8.4
salinity....1.022
Should any of these cause him any problems?

they dont seem to far off, how long have you had him? and I would not recommend listening to the LFS if that is what they recommended.

I wouldn't be too worried, they tend to hide out for a while, wedging under rocks and stuff. Has he eaten yet?

This is normal for any fish once they are added to an aquarium. I would continue too offer food to him daily to see if he eats. Fish want to live. So if he is hungary he will eat.
Keep a close eye on a couple of things.
-Make sure that his fins remain clear. If they are getting cloudy then he needs to be medicated.
- Make sure that his coloration stays the same. The black should be deep and the tan should be as well. If it lightens then he is sick.
- Make sure his eyes remain with the irrodescent color.
