My toadstool has been gorgeous and healthy since day 1. It has grown significantly since I have purchased. Keeping in mind his feelers are long and breeze in the flow all day with lights and at night usually they go back in which is when I snapped this picture for ease of you to see. What in the world is this hole? Not a mouth, you can see it from behind also, goes straight through. No issues with tank, has looked fine and still continues to look fine, you don't even notice this hole until night because his feelers are out so during the day.
PH 8.2
Alk Med/high
Ammonia (just a touch, normal new fish added a day ago-a mandarin)
nitrite 0
nitrate 0
phos 0
salinity steady at 1.023
temp 80
calcium was about 420 2 days ago and just tonight did our weekly water change
All looks great....here is tank pic and this weird pic of the toadstool....thanks in advance!

Hate to say but looks like tissue death to me. But I don't have much experience, so just what it looks like to me. Sorry. I hope not though.

Mine has developed the same type holes prior to dropping off little youngs uns....but they usually happen closer to the edges.....I'd just keep it stable and keep a eye on it...in time you may wind up with a few new frags.

I had a similar experience with mine, except the hole was on the side of the trunk, my LFS who sold it to me said it did it once before and it caused the coral to become detached from the rock and he had to reattach it to a new rock. (because it ate through the entire side of the coral, I assume he grew the piece still attached to the rock)
and when I bought it, it had another hole developing, the same one that caused the coral to detach
He suggested this time that I stick my finder in the hole and scrape the inside with my finger.
I did so, not knowing anything about corals, and the hole never got any larger and eventually healed up
and today it is doing great!

yes, I will try that. It is odd, although it is central in nature, on the underside it is closer to a side where it I kind of gaping in slightly in shape so that hole does kind of lean towards an edge on the underside but I did not think these split. I wil scrape the hole. anyone else have an idea how this happens?
