Is nitrate affecting corals?

I am wondering can nitrate be affecting soft corals? What can you do to keep soft corals well and alive? Thanks. Michelle

Good water and light, how high are your nitrates? Over 20 can hurt them.

I have a current USA 48" HQI metal Halide light. I thought that it might be too strong to make algea grow fast. Our nitrate reads 50.
Can you explain what is a good water, please?

With nitrates at 50 you have some serious problems. You really need to do a large water change using RO water to try to bring them down. Corals are not going to live under those conditions.

Do you mean 50 percent water change? And is it ok if I can email directly to you because I'm totally new with saltwater fish and really want to learn how to work with it.
