Is painting PVC toxic?

Can I paint the PVC that is submerged in the tank to match the background or is it toxic? Is there any aquaruim safe paint?? I was considering using some black tape but would the adhesive cause a problem? (say black eletrical tape?) It took me over a week to fill the tank with RO water and I dont want to contaminate it in any way. (The pvc is removable)

You could probably use epoxy paint, but it is very noxious while it dries. I would not recommend using anything that was not designed to be underwater, like boat paint. You could call boat builders in your area, and they might have some they would give you for painting just one pipe. A much better solution would be colored PVC, which you can find on the internet. It is a lot more expensive, but you can find it. It comes in blue, black, and a few other colors. Another alternative would be to use the plastic conduit used for electrical applications. It is cheap, and is a gray color. There would not be a problem using this. it comes in the same sizes as PVC.
Good luck,
Sonny

Most glues on tape is not suggested. You can use any paint that is NSF approved which is easiy to find at any paint store. Carefull on the PVC, make sure the primer and glue is also NSF approved.
