Is the Carib Sea 'live sand' worth buying?

I used 100lbs of Carib Sea in my 150G tank, plus I received some (about 1/2 full gallon zip-lock bag) of "real" live sand from a trusted established tank. No worries--cycled with a raw shrip in 30 days. I had copepods shortly after. Good luck

I feel your pain....everything is expensive. I am also new to the hobby, but getting the right set-up in the beginning will save you alot of money later. I was advised to "work backwards" meaning--deciede what I wanted to keep--research it--then create my tank set-up accordingly to provide the right enviroment to support it. As hard as it is...be patient--you can only add one or two "water pets" every 2 or 3 weeks anyway--so get used to an empty tank in the beginning.

From my understanding, the bagged "live" sand has bacteria but isn't truly live. I simply purchased the dry sand....it is 30 lbs for $20 bucks...as oppposed to what 15 - 20 lbs for $40?.....Then I simply got some live sand from a couple of folks, some live rock, and a shrimp...and about 4-1/2 to 5 weeks later...I was cycled.....The dry stuff I got was the CaribSea Aragonite...150 lbs for $100....saved me well over $150.....
