I just recieved LR from Saltwaterfish.com and when it arrived it had some odor to it. Do you know if they sell their "Premium" Fiji LR uncured or cured.
Thanks,

Its most likely is cured, but after its shipped it should be recured for a few days. Its better to be safe than sorry. All you need is a container full of SW and an air stone, or pump. You can do water changes to help speed the process. Testing the water for ammonia, nitrites and nitrates will tell you when its done. HTH
No lr is 100% completely cured until it's been in your tank for a few months. So it is better to be safe than sorry as Adrian said. And is your tank established or is it in the process of cycling?

The short answer about is the cycling is... I'm not sure. My cheminstry readouts are kinda confusing. Started out with 13 lbs. from the LFS then a fews later added 20 lbs from SWF.COM the ammonia spiked a little after adding the 20 lbs of fiji LR from SWF.COM, then the ammonia settled down to ZERO after about a week. All the while Nitrites and Nitrates never really changed, just a little, but not too much. I've added another 16 lbs from another LFS... It was cured but no coralline algae like the orginial two purchases (first LFS and SWF.COM) on it. Things still read zero. Thinking the testkit was bad, I took a water sample to the LFS but their reading were the same as mine. I think I will wait another week or two then add a clown to see how he does before slowly adding coral.
Do you have any thoughts why the readings are screwy?
I say put the rock in as soon as you get it. I know some will disagree with this is my opinion. Most stores cure it before they ship it to you, if you cure it, then your just killing vital life that may be on the rock. Theres stuff that you might kill off that isn't even in the books yet. As long as you have some kind of bio-filter running on your tank, and skimmer, they both will keep from haveing any spikes in your water. Now if it black looking from decay, then cure,Other wise put it in there and save the good stuff.
Tykill,
If there is stock in you tank, or too much die off, I must disagree. It could take several weeks for the anerobic bacteria to gobble up the waste products and complete the cycle. None of us would put garbage in our tanks, and putting uncured live rock is about the same, especially after being in the in the mail for a day or more.

think about it,,they order it ,it comes in boxes,,are they willing to sit on it for 6 weeks and lose the money and take that chance,,maybe,,no one knows
