History tells us that every empire since the beginning of time has risen and then fell .Assyrian.....Roman.... Babylonian.

From what I understand the Roman empire fell because much of their income came from other civilizations that they conquered and after the defeat of the Macedonians (I think this was the last place they took), they were out of places to pillage and people to enslave. Also rampant spending by emperors on things like the colusseum and the parthenon further weakened Rome.
I personally don't think America is going down this road but we are spending quite a bit of money ON war and not really getting any money from it. Though I am sure someone will not agree with me on that.

its not just war we are spending money on, we are spending money on a ton of things that we should not be spending it on. and honestly, if everyone would read up on it, they would realize, the government has NO right to tax us, as of i believe it was a supreme court ruling in the early 1900's, i think it was 1913, but not real sure on it, but anyway, the IRS is illegal, and all our GREAT(read the sarcasm there) government is doing is stealing from us

the government has become a tyrant. to it's own people. look at this governor from Illinois trying to auction off Obama's Senate seat. people act like it's, "oh, another crooked politician". when in reality, this guy should probably be hanged on the front lawn of the nearest courthouse. in the old days, that's likely what would've happened. think about it, what this guy has done is an attempt to undermine what this government is supposed to represent.
so yeah, the government has wrestled too much power away from the people and so we're due for a downfall. give Rome credit, at least they lasted a lot longer than we have.

Alright, I'm a political moderate, but what a left-wing question.
I think most of the points against the question have been made.
Ask your teacher what Woodstock was like, and whether he still makes hemp shirts on the weekend.
<cartman voice>Hippies. Say they want to save the world.. but all they do is sit around and smoke...</cartman voice>

I'm a right wing nutcase. And I think it could be a fair... For two reasons really. (I don't know if this is how it was proposed. But the best way to defend your position is to know what you are going to attack your position with. Second. The best way to learn is from example because then you don't pay the price. Third There are some comparison to be made. Not that I particularly espouse them. Nor do I think that they were the reasons.

I think your avatar and user title pretty much made that understood.
BTW, what are the rules on buying guns for gifts?
Let me espouse a little more... I'm all for planning, examining organizational weaknesses, and planning for the worst. I think that type of self-examination is missing in a lot of of individuals and organizations.
However, I think this question comes from the need of the left-wing to demonize our nation, and compare our current role as the world's only superpower to past empires.

This question could also come from an extreme right viewpoint.
Rome fell when here people grew less interested in being "Roman", and more interested in what the Government was going to give them today. Rome fell as their morale values declined. Rome fell once her legions quit supporting her politicians...

Actually, Rome didn't really fall, it evolved from a pagan-based, highly evolved society, to a Christian empire that was exceeding successful. What is left of that today in concrete terms is the Vatican.
Some also see the USA as an extension of Rome, and if you look at the buildings in our capital, one might see why.
Rome was a republic once, before it took to having emperors. The USA is also a republic. We have a Senate and House of Reps, Rome had a Senate. The eagle was Rome's national emblem, as it is ours. Actually there are so many things from religion, to politics to art, architecture and even science that has its roots in Rome. Western civilization owes a great deal to the Romans, and even the Greeks before them.

I find that giving ammo with the gun is more appreciated. Guns and ammo, there like salt and pepper you cant have one without the other.
And yes the US gov will fall when the breaucracy becomes over bearing...
