is there a good way to vaccum the top layer of debris off my DSB??

I have about 20 turbo snails and 8 hermit crabs and they just are not getting it done. I guess I need to beef up the crew. What and how many new creatures do you reccommend I add to my 38 gallon reef?

I have been known to occasionally suck up some detritus off the top of my sandbed, I do it by using a small hose and creating a siphon and just sucking up the detritus only, I do not disturb the sandbed at all, of course I probably need to beef up by clean up crew also, just wating for that darn tax return!

i do not have a refugium and I think I might have pods.. do they usually stay hidden out of site? I think I saw one the other day but I believe that was the first and only one I have ever seen in my tank.

I my be confusing pods with something else..are pods the little white dots on my aquarium glass? if so, then yes I have quite a bit of those little things!

the things on the glass look like a tiny white dot with 5 or 6 little arms.

I think I saw a pod the other day but what are the little things on my glass that look like a little white dot with little arms? I will try to find pic, I know I have seen it posted on here before..they do not look like the creatures in your pics above..
