Is there any reason why I can't put my tank in our kitchen...

Well...since you asked...
grease builds up from cooking...that room gets hotter than others in the house...the possibility of some food stuff, or cleaner getting to close to the tank..since chemicals are used all the time in a kitchen. I have a canopy, somebody, somewhere, sometime is going to set something on it...just for a second..soda what have you...
It is also usually a brightly lit room..so algae comes into play...do you need me to go on?
However...it is close to water..the floor is water proof...if you are like me it is a room most visited...

Thanks I know kind of a silly question. But I have wood floors everywhere else. I'm just scared I'll have a leak at some point and loose a wood floor... I have tile in the kitchen. It's a huge kitchen but I was concerned about the cooking factor more than the heat because it is the coolest room in the house... Thanks I might have to rethink that move.

Plus,don't you want it to be somwhere more viewable..I know for me ,I'll sit on my couch and just stare into my tank.My wife will ask if i saw what happen on TV,and of course i didn't.I don't mind when she watches food network either,cause i'm just staring at the tank!

hey.... if racheal ray's on, I'll stop watching the tank to see her

but IMO there's nothing wrong with putting your tank in the kitchen....
you'll have the possibility of mishaps in any room
Its your tank, its your kitchen I say go 4 it
(although I wouldn't necessarily put it underneath the spice rack
)

Get some durarock board..larger than the base of your tank stand by about 8 inches around..put ceramic tile on it and grout...now you have a very durable stand to put your tank on off the wood floor. That is what I would do, and it would look nice too.

My tank is right next to my breakfast bar... With all the new fangled vent fans and home ventilation systems and as long as you have covers for the top if you happen to be cooking something fatty or greasy you shouldnt have a problem..

I have seen this suggested before and don't really understand how it helps. I mean, I can see if some water is dripped or splashed around the edge. But if the tank were to actually leak or overflow, wouldn't the water just run off the tile and onto the wood?
