hello everyone,
i was thinking of trying to ship some corals out to a friend. now, i realize its cold. some of these corals will go out west. and upper New England. i myself, am in New England.
it will be moslty zoas, and some sps but but i wont ship if i wont see anythign stay alive. i have styrofoam boxes, i could get some bubble wrap and put it in there to keep some heat and use those heat packs you use for your hands.
anybody have some input on this?
thanks

Some people here were complaining earlier this week that there stocks were coming in dead cause of the cold. I wouldnt do it till it warms up

I order from SWF in the winter all the time and the only thing I lost was one emerald crab out of three in the bag. HOWEVER
, SWF has a guarantee that they arrive alive, so I trust them.
To ship to another person would be a whole new ball game, I wouldn't be able to guarantee the arrival.
So I would indeed order from SWF, but not ship critters myself.

I lost a secretive Wrasse, and a brain coral
BUT we also have had temps that are MUCH colder than usual.....
On another note, the flame hawkfish and yellow polyps (same shipment) are doing great

Basically it comes down to rolling the dice. How long they are the FedEx truck that day and how cold it is on that truck.
Personally I won't but I live in ND or lower north pole most of the winter. I guess the perk is it keeps most of the rift raft out.

I got a shipment of a GTBA, brain coral and lettuce nudibranch a few weeks ago and had no problems. Shipment came with a little warmer pack in it, as opposed to the cooler pack in the summer. The box was checked into the FedEx facility about 8am and not delivered until 2pm. Not sure if it was in a truck or inside a building for those 6 hours.
