Is this a Coral?

I am new to this hobby. I have been watching this coral like thing grow on my live rock for about 6 months now. It is red and feels like a coral. If you know what this is please tell me. Thanks.

Is it squishy and slimey (algae or possibly coral) or is it firm and not slimey (sponge)??

If it is a sponge don't expose it to air!

It is squishy and slimey. When I touch it it does not retract like my other corals do. Thanks for helping.

It is most likely a type of algae, IMO. At least it looks very similar to some that I have.

Is it safe to keep in my tank or would you recomend me to get rid of it. Also does it spread.
