Sunlight Tek Light T5 Hood - 48" x 8 bulb - bulbs are 54 watts each. Dim: 48" L x 19" W x 2.5" T $419
someone suggested these..but I am honestly not sure what to get for this tank.
I am going to do FOWLR for now..and when established I know I will want to add corals and a possible anemone.
Can someone tell me if this light is necessary or what would you suggest. I wanted to get something that is not noisy..which they claim and also does not run hot.
PLEASE help anyone as I am looking to make this purchase asap.
What is the difference between T'5 and MH..
I prefer to stay away from MH due to heat, mercury vapors and high energy costs..
thanks much!!!

depending on what you want to have for corals, i have 542 watts for my 75 gal reef, i did a retro kit with MHS and pcs, i did a lot of research on lighting before i bought, better to spend the money 1st time around instead of upgrading later, IMO do some comparing before you buy, the setup i went with was about $550.00, if that. I'm sure t-5s are good lights but i just dont know that much about them..

Thanks.
There aren't any lights in which I can just leave out the MH bulbs and then add them later but still having the housing for it?
I wish there was once clear answer.

Well, the way I figure it is that for probably less than $250..I can get the lights I would need for a FOWLR tank. Then in a year or more I can sell those for alittle less and then get the ones I need rather than dish out the $500 now..
I don't know. I am confused and wish there was one clear cut light that was the best.
It's difficult to decide when there are so many choices..

all the stuff you want you could keep under T5 in a 75. You could even do some LPS down the road.
I live MH but T5 for me is the way to go.

TEK LIGHT T5 HIGH OUTPUT 4ft / 4 LAMP FLUORESCENT LIGHTING COMPLETE
NEW IN BOX! The Next Big Thing In Horticultural Lighting TEK-LIGHT(tm) T5 High Output Fluorescent Lighting
ADVANTAGES:
High output lamps have an extremely high lumen per watt rating 5000 lumens per lamp 54 watts=92.59 lumens/watt. *Reference Point: an F40 cool white lamp: 1260 lumens per lamp440 watts =31.5 lumens/watt
Lamps have very low heat factor which allows the fixture to be hung very close to plant canopy, thus raising light levels.
The TEK-LIGHT(tm)'s exclusive 9-bend reflector is made of German 95% reflective aluminum. Light output is 300% higher in our reflector vs. a lamp with no reflector.
Replacement lamps are extremely cost effective.
Fixtures are low profile, sleek and light to hang.
Solid state electronic ballasts (no copper windings) do not emit heat, noise or vibration.
Unique design places ballasts outside lamps (instead of above lamps as in competitive fixtures) for longer fixture life.

Hey Carshark..This is getting so complicated for a gal like me...lol
Would that setup be good enough to light a reef tank eventually?
Do the T5's really run cooler?
Can you email me as to where you saw the $180 bucks one
and last question..what are single reflectors? are they better?
jashton5@optonline.net
thanks so much

A six lamp Tek light will let you raise anything you want on a 75. 4 lamps would be OK for most everything but high light clams and SPS unless you keep them towards the top. 8 lamps is overkill IMO.
