i have a 55 gl bowfront that im going to be stting up for a reef tank. what will i be able to keep, and what wont i be able to keep?
the light is a 305 watt metal halide fixture and ballast system. it includes one double ended 175W HQI 20000K & two 65W compact fluorescent bulb actinic blue & four blue moon LED night lights.
the tank is 24" and will have a 3"-4" sand bed, so figure the deepest a coral could be wouldbe 20".

If you have that brace right in the middle of your bowfront then 1 light wouldnt be good. It will cast a shadow on the tank cuz its right in the middle. Im having the same problem. So im going with 2 150w DE HQI 14,000k fixture. Plus the heat from the fixture may create problems for that center brace. A for the odysea brand ive read mixed reviews. Mostly negative ones. Basically what ive read is you get what you pay for.

I plan on keeping alot of corals. This fixture will give me about 6.5 watts per gallon of light. So i can probably keep just about anything. Ive seen the fixture in person and its a nice color. Its the Current USA Sunpod 36". Check it out. Ive got a price for under $450 shipped.

Its not from a local store. Ive been to 3 different LFS and no one can match the online price. Ive gotten $500, $550, $575. Its from the auction site. Its a great fixture. Internal ballasts. The 14k bulbs are really bright and give the water a nice blueish white look. I sound like a salesman for Current USA.

my tank is 36" long as well, but if the supportin the center is going to cast a shadow, or melt into my tank, then im better off spending the money. even two smaller lights are gunna cost more than the 36" one.
