Is this normal xenia splitting behavior??

A couple days ago, one of my 2 pulsing xenia stalks have turned purple. It has 2 branches which looks like it has split down to the base. Is it going to split apart soon??? Is this why the stalk is purple? My other stalk has 3 branches and is still pink.

If the head looks wilty it might die. When I got mine, 4 heads were fine and the smallest was wilty. I was told to cut it off in the middle of the trunk to save it. After about 3 weeks, it grew new little hands and is doing great now.
Don't do anything until you have heard from other people too b/c mine weren't purple, just darker/ shriveled. But supposedly if the top is not cut off, it can kill the whole coral if indeed it is dying.

mine don't really split, it just grows a little stump out of its side and attaches itself somewhere else and then moves, but still keeps growing in its original location and doesn't change color.
Hope someone can help you out with this. Do you have a pic you can post?

No no pic. I dont know whats going on. Its not looking good. I found my emerald crab dead last week. My ph was low 7.7 with salifert test kit, so I buffered it to 8.2 . Then my kh was high 16, I did a 5g w/c last night, got it down to 15. Mixing more water right now .. It just looks like when your finger turns purple when you cut off circulation. they are all closed in except a couple. My psp and gsp are doing fine. my snails, hermit crab and black brittle star are good. My green candy canes are great. My other ones look deflated with thier mouths open. My shrooms all look healthy. .

mine split and spread like wild fire, but i have never seen them turn purple. EXCEPT for a small frag that i was unable to place and put it in my QT not thinking of lighting & it got very dark and wilty with NO lighting. what kind of lighting do you have? i am sure it is adequate because your other coarls are doing well.

Xenia is pretty hard to kill so I would think they should be ok after you get your ph and whatever else didn't test normal where it should be.
After the water conditions are good, I think the xenia should open up and look healthy within a day.

what type of xenia are people putting in their refugiums now ? I heard from the bloke at my lfs that one type is particulary good at cleaning impurities in the water

I do 5g w/c a week.. did an extra w/c a couple days ago cause my lvls are wacked. I use steam distilled water. 0ph 0kh or close to that anyways. My calcium was 415 this morning, kinda low but not that bad considering the over 16kh Im dealing with . .
