Is this normal???

I have two false percs- bought them together six months ago. One is larger - female I assume? They get along great - with each other and their tank mates.
For the past few weeks, the larger one has been behaving very strangely. At night I find her lying on her side in the sand - like she's sleeping. I thought she was dead last night, but when I turned on my lights she got very active and swam around happily - coming to the glass for food, etc.
My water specs are dead on perfect and everyone else seems fine. She's not breathing heavily, just lying on her side in the sand bed.

Bang, I just bought 2 percs adn the amel died after the third night. When I bought him he had injured fins and I bought some Melafix for him. I saw white cottony dots on him and the LFS said that it was velvet ick. I thought he was sleeping when I woke up but he was dead. I thought when fish die they float. Do they?
