Is This Normal

I come home from work and see that half of the brown algae i had on my tank is gone. The past two days i have seen my yellow tail damsel (el diablo) and my scooter blenny eatin the algae. Is this normal or what

is this a relatively new tank? because diatom can disappear rather quickly. damsels and scooter blennys wouldnt ravish the algae like that, its not their main food source

my yellow tail damsel grazes on algae.not like a tang but still nips at it.like other post said once the tank stabilizes the algae will go away pretty fast.

Ok i guess thats what i'm gonna attribute this too is that the tank is stabilizing. The yellow tail grazes on the rock too i'm assuming he's picking up leftover food cause i feed them way more than i should. I guess the yellow tail is good for something besides being a fish that thinks its a pitbull

Hey, Damsels are good for more than that! They are great food items for Lionfish, Groupers, and other predatory fish.
More seriously; I'll bet the day comes when you want that damsel out. They are little terrors that will harass anything. "Damsel removal' is one of the most common topics on this form and I'd get him out ASAP. As long as you have hime, he, not you will decide what fish you can keep.

Its annoying that el diablo is so nasty cause hes kinda cool looking. I never had a problem with my domino damsel i wonder why. Oh Well

yea its just the behavior of the damsels, they will be the cause of a majority of stress in the tank, which can include ich outbreaks and other fun stuff.
i agree, get the damsel out! lol

Any chance of filming the chase? Getting these fish out can make you as frustrated as Aristotle Onassis was on his honeymoon with Jackie Kennedy.

It would seriously just be a video of me throwing things and swearing up a storm like the other night. i dont know what to do anymore.I'm waiting for my bigger tank to finish cycling than i'm gonna move everything to that tank and use the old tank for new frags.

Good luck, I had a couple of damsels in my tank when my tangs broke out with ick. Had to pull almost 200lbs of live rock out to get all the fish into a quarantine tank. BTW, I didn't keep the damsels after that.
