just recently i set up a new tank for my xenia cuttings.it's another 40 gallon breeder tank. it has 80 pounds of sand and 40 pounds of live sand. i put about 20 pounds of dead live rock that i had and let it cycle for almost 3 months with no lights. it has a plenum, and a 32 gallon rubermaid sump and some power heads. i just finished my hood last week. it has two 95 w 10000k, and two 30 w actinics. about two days later i put two nic pieces of xenia in it. after that, i decided to add 20 more pound of live rock over a three day period. i tested the water last night and everything checked out fine, ammonia 0, nitrite 0, nitrate 0, ph 8.4, calcium 480, phos 0. so, i was just wondering if i should run into any problems with anything since i added the new live rock. also, just to note, i have no skimmer, never did , never will! i hate them!!

As long as the live rock was cured I dont see any problems...my last xenia crashed a week after adding some "cured" live rock...hope all goes well. Have a great day!

120 lbs of sand with plenum,and 40llbs of rock in a 40 gallon tank...I'd love to see a picture of that....NOT POSSIBLE!!!!!!!

it's about a 4 inch sand bed with a 1 inch plenum. that makes it about 5 inches or so. don't forget, it's a 40 breeder. 36x18.

I have a 40g FO tank with a 4-5in dsb, and maybe 15# of lr. My total water volume in the tank is less than 27g. Keep an eye on the h2o chem, might get an ammo spike, it can get wacked pretty fast, even with a 35 gallon sump.

i'm sad to say that the two xenias that i put in are losing the battle. i tested the water again and it still tests the same as before. but, thats ok, there is PLENTY more pieces where those two came from.

Your tank is probably too new to support xenia. they seem to do better in a more nutirent rich enviornment IMO.
There are more concerns to keeping corals then the tests you've mentioned...how is the water movement?
Xenia in particular seems to be really hit or miss...it's taking over my 125 but at the LFS he can't get it to survive long enough to sell it.

the water movment in the tank is fine. all my xenias in my other tanks are like weeds! i probly shouldn't have added the coral and then more live rock. i should have put it back into another tank until the new rock was settled for a couple weeks.
oh well! you can never stop laerning from experience!! better luck to me next time around. :D
