Hi
can someone tell me the extact symptoms off oodinium.. I know its a fast and deadly killer but the symtopms seem to be very similar to ich. Two weeks ago i added a few anthias after two weeks in qt . I noticed last week that two of my angels began to flash and scrtach and their eyes are now cloudy but there are no visible white dots. Well i get home today and three of the anthias are dead and the clarrkii is not looking to good. again i dont see any white spots on any of the fish just the cloudy eyes.. the crazy part is the anthias looked and ate fine yesterday. Is this oodinium and what is the best treatment? i only have two 20g tanks so i was considering removing the lr and adding copper or doing hypo on the DT.

It certainly sounds like oodinium. I would begin treatment of hyposalinity if it were me.
Oodinium affects the gills of the fish first, so it might be there and you are just not seeing it. You may not be seeing it on the fish because the gills become so filled with mucus that the fish might be dying before the parasite even has a chance to form cysts on the body.

ok i just checked my qt tank and the juvi emperor died. he had been flashing for two days and i just put im in the qt tank today with cupramine. I also removed the remaining of the larger fish this evening and put them in my two 2og tanks. the only fish left in the DT are two anthias, a cleaner wrasse and a black goby. Since oodinium kills so fast i decided to go with copper in the qt first. I'm going to begin hypo tomorrow in the DT. btw here are my paramaters:
210g fowlr
salinity - 1.020
ph: 8.2
phosphates:0
nitrates: 10
calcium:350
amonia: 0
skimmer:reefdevil deluxe
i change 20g per week
Ive seen people remove all the lr and put copper in the dt to make sure all the ichor oodinium are gone. Is hypo just as effective as putting copper in the DT? once the salinity is at 1.009 when can i put the fish back in the DT?
oh i forgot i guess i need to remove all the lr also correct.. I put it two of my rubbermaid bins with sw.

If you use copper in your display, then it will have to become a Fish Only tank, because the copper will continue to be problematic for live rocks, inverts. At this point, you don't really have a positive ID on the issue. Did you notice rapid gilling? Swollen gills? Any powdery dusting on flesh? The quick death does not automatically mean it was oodinium.

Hi Beth
last night i also put the queen angel and a Clarkii in my QT tank but both were dead this morning. Thats five dead fish within 12 hours !!! The queens gills were visibilly swollen and red last night prioir to death. the main symptoms were scratching, flashing, and heavy breathing.. There was no visible white specs on either angel except discoloration. I did notice that one of the small anthias that was still alive last night did seem to have very tiny specs over it. I got three Tierra anthias two weeks ago and only QT for two weeks .(so this is my fault) I also got a reef "critter crew" last week from my lfs . he ordered them and never even took them out the bag . I'm trying to figure out where it came from? So right now there is only a cleaner wrasse , a black goby and maybe a few anthias left inthe DT. everyone else went to three QT last night treated with cuppramine. what would you reccomend at this point ? should i hypo the DT? I can take out the lr(only have about 100lbs) and a few mushrooms or just remove the rest of the fish ?

Ok, that sounds more like it. You need to treat all fish wih cupramine. Are the QTs well cycled?

yes, they have been running for a few months now . I have a critter crew, an anemone and mushrooms in the DT. will leaving the DT fishless for 4 weeks be as effective as doing hypo? If not, i can remove the lr and inverts and hypo the DT. what you think ?

Without a host the parasites will die. You do not have to hypo the display.
