i got a rock and i got aptasia and this thing....
the circular one with dots?
it looks like an anemone....
does anybody know what this is?
i heard most of the pretty hitch hikers are pests
is this pest too?

I just replied to your other thread, but seeing as you posted a slightly better pic here,
I'm 99% sure that it's a bleached majano anemone. See my other post for how to get rid of it, but definitely get rid of it.
Don't stress, we all get them and aiptasia, if you kill them now, you won't have an issue later.

Sorry have to disagree here. That is a Pseudocorynactis sp., not really an anemone but a corallimorph, mush like a mushroom. Is this a new rock to your tank? I am surprised to see it out in the open like that. They usually are in shaded areas like under overhangs in the rock work. I have a few of these in my tank and they pose not problems. No need to spot feed or anything. Just leave it be and enjoy the diversity.

You're allowed to disagree. I trust your opinion, I have something that looks just like that and it was ID'd as a bleached majano. I guess I will have to post it up again.

Yeah the little white balls on the tips are pretty much a give away. Also called white ball anemone and on the west coast in colder waters a strawberry anemone with reddish colored balls on the tips.

I agree with Henry again. That is a what I have too and IDed as a ball anemone. Its very pretty and hasnt spread at all.

I have a bunch of these in my tank...I have noticed they go through phases where there are a ton then they die off, then they come back again....but they have never bothered anything in my tank.
Also, some come with orange balls on the tips!!

but it is attatched to a rock with a aiptasia so i might have to kill it also....
yes this is a new rock and i have never had these aiptasia or anything like this before, and now there are alot of it

Hi guys, I am helping to raise this tank. I'm the guy who introduced this rock to the system (oops) because I read the purple algea on it would spread to other rocks, which I want. I added the rock 3 nights ago so hopefully aipstasia hasn't spread too much.
Thanks for the IDs, I am going to work on removing the aipstasia in a moment while keeping the white ball anemone. I so have a couple hermits so I will first try to isolate them with the rock and see if they go at it, then return all to the tank.
FWIW when I first found the WB anemone is was underneath an overhang, closed, so I flipped it over to put it in the light, which made it open up. I assume it will move to where it wants to be eventually. I also spotted a couple little same colored dots near the WB, but not attatched, so maybe it is already multiplying?

I read a post that injecting lemon juice into the stalk of the aptasia will kill it without it spreading. They used a hyperdermic needle and shot the little dudes up. Would be a way to save the anemone!
