Is This Really Necessary?

Living in Florida and growing up in South Florida, I watched a lot of dredging and channels widened to expand the beaches and allow for bigger freighters. I read this article today and it struck me as very sad even though they plan to move these corals and reef's. To you veteran's of the coral and sea world, what's your opinion?

Dredge the bay IMO. Nature will replenish what and where it needs to.

I would also say dredge it. Corals will find somewhere else to be happy further down or up the coast, and they will be around long after that port closes down and humanity is gone.

So it may not be a bad thing what they are planning to do. that's good to hear.

To dredge or not I don't know enough to say.
What I do take from the article is that are hobby is a big help. Buying coral frags from some of these coral nurseries finances the study and protection of the reef. This will allow the planers to move the reef in question successfully, if managed correctly...
