I have a green star polip matt that is about 12" across. It in the last day or so has developed a red fizzy spot. Is this the dreaded red slime? If so what do I do about it?
It is important to note that I just upgraded the tanks lights from Power compact light 65 x 2 (50/50) to the new Aqualight Pro Hqi Lighting System ( 492 Watts ) 2 x 150 mh 2 x 96 actinic.

yes it is red slime
umm there really isn't anything natural that eats it, so i guess cut back on feeding time and how long you have your lights on and that should work

I have some chemiclean red slime remover. Should I use it? Does it have any bad effect on the reef?
I also just sucked off the patch of slime. I hope that was the right choice. I also moved it away from the MH to the bottom of the tank.

The red slime remover by chemi clean does work very well. I have used it in many of the tanks at work.
