Is this safe?

I got this nice 80 gallon 5 ft long tank. It was used. It has few minor scratches, and is a little bit sandy, so I just wanted to clean it up a little. There are no fish or water in it. Is it ok if I use a paper towel and water, just to wipe of the sand stuck on the glass? I hear that tap water has dangerous chemicals. But I will dry it with a dry paper towel. and what type of scratch remover chemical should I use to buff o ut scratches? Please, i would appreciate if you answer nicely. Thx

Hi. Novus Plastic/Acrylic polishes are about the best to use. I use it on a 225g Acrylic tank I have:

When finished it's fine to wipe with tap, and if you really want to feel good about it, you can dilute some vinegar in RO and use as a final wipe. :)
Fill up and enjoy your bright, scratch free tank. :) :)
