I am buying a 100 gallon tank form a friend who is off to Iraq on monday but he has allot of fish in it
1 yellow tang
1 purple tang
1 kole tang
1 foxface
2 percula clown
1 marine betta
60 lbs of liverock
80 lbs of live sand
all the fish are getting along and the yellow and purple tang
but is the too many fish for 100 gallon and what should I do about it.
nitrites and ammonia is 0 but nitrates are at 40 we did a 10% water change on Saturday and are going to look at it today and do another waterchange if levels are still high

well the tangs are so beautiful in the tank but can you keep this many in 100 gallons. They all get along surprisingly

if you can keep the levels low, and the fish are not unhappy or outgrowing the tank (plenty of space to swim freely), then keep them in there. No need to mess up the ecosystem that's going on in the tank until it's neccessary. If you can get the nitrates down to about 25ppm for now, then you should be fine to let it go for a while. Just keep up on the maintenance and do regular water changes. Those fish may outgrow the tank eventually though, and then you will need to make some room by removing some.
Good luck to your friend, by the way. Hope he makes it home safe!
