Is this the dreaded bubble algae?

thats what i thought too, ok everyone says don't pop it can i just take that rock out and scrub it off? or what is the method of choice it's just started so i think i got the upper hand anyway...tobin

emerald crab supposedly is best choice, not sure how else since i luckily avoided them

1st case so maybe i'll just pull then rock and put the zippo to it...tobin

propane torch would be a better choice zippo is fluid is going to leave nasty chemical residue on the rock, propane burns clean.

ok after the torch can i put the rock right back in the tank?...tobin

Take a gravel vac , pull the big end off , Now start the suction and place the hose right on the bubble alge, scrub it back and forth gently till it pops and gets sucked right out!

i would have to say yes , there will probably be more. It's just one of those things you deal with , Nothing to stress out about!

thanks symon could this be from leaving my sump/fuge light on 24/7? i know i'm getting a lot of algae growth down there and i just started doin that about 3 weeks ago or so?...tobin

that ones right out there open enough to just scrape it off from underneath and catch it. If you have a large problem or where they are wedged into the rock you may need to pull the rock but not for that one. Contrary to stories or bursting a) the bubbles are as hard as rocks. try and burst it once its out the tank. not likely to burst one that size by accident. b) unless there is a nutrient problem they dont spread fast even if you do burst them. Once you see one you will have them forever. No big deal, if the tank is well maintained you will only have to scrape a few off every 3 or 4 months at worst.
