I am wanting to upgrade my lighting but im not sure if the wattage is more than my tank can handle.. I have a 40gal bow front and i would like to upgrade to the Aqualight Pro HQI/Compact Fluorescent/Lunar Light Fixture which has two options.. 280watts and 380watts. is this more watts than I can handle on my tank?
Thanks

What are you going to keep? With the 250 MH you'd be set for anything. I would consider going with T-5's to suppliment rather than the CF's. Longer bulb life and better overall lighting IMHO!

Reef Tank? Softies, LPS, SPS? I would think if you went with Softies and LPS the 150 would be fine. SPS I think the 250 would be a better choice.

I would like to be able to add anything I want to the tank hard or soft.. I only have soft now with PC lighting so Im assuming the 250 watt is what I'll go with..
Thanks

Hard to really say there is too much per say. You can have 2 400w bulbs in a 240g tank and you have 3-4 watts per gallon.... but if you have a piece of coral directly under the 400w bulb its getting a HUGE amount of light while ones on the bottom really aren't.
Now you can have overkill.. but a 150w or 250w bulb over an area of 40 gallons would be fine with other supplemental lighting, just be aware of heat issues that may arise.

I would personally get the 250w. Mainly due to the depth of the tank
