When people ask me what that is (referring to my corals)? I tell them they are meat plants and the tank is my meat garden.
People just don't realize that not all organsim's reaction to physical harm (such as fragging) include pain. We think this way because we relate all creatures to ourselves. We don't look at plants this way because plants have a much slower reaction to change. I can still remember my teacher in 3rd grade telling us that there are 6 things that something needs to be considered living. The coral can realize it is being harmed and it can react. For us, we need to feel pain to realize we are being harmed.
1. Get energy
2. Use energy
3. Produce waste
4. Reproduce
5. Grow
6. React to change
Fire is almost living. Gets and uses energy, produces waste, reacts to change, and grows...but it does not reproduce
