I've been told not to order fish in the NE winter (I"m in Maryland). I want to order a Desjardinii Tang from SWF.com. Should I wait for spring?

SWF will probably make that decision for you? i just got a shipment from the NW Thurs and all was ok and it was 30 degrees in Raleigh and well below that in the NW.

SWF does a pretty good job with packaging. as long as youll be able to get the package directly out of the mail and into acclimation, i wouldnt be too worried about it. ive ordered in the winter, and everythings been fine.

I live in Minnesota and just got my Erectus seahorse at 10am this morning. It was a nipping 20 degrees out, make sure to pack your fin boots.

It is the opposite of what you would think. Fish from the tropics are great durring the winter. SWF has a guarantee and would not send you unhealthy specimens.

I'm convinced. I'll order him today. I've wanted one for a while and if I get him now, by the time he gets out of QT my monster will be ready to receive him (I hope). I've got several QTs set up because I wanted to get a clean-up crew reef package for my new tank. Any suggestions as to which package for 20 square feet of tank bottom and 400 lbs. of LR?

I've ordered in the winter before. They pack them in heavy styrofoam and throw in a few heating pads which keep them warm. IMO, it's better to order in the winter than in the summer when it can get to 120 degrees in the truck.

I ordered the Tang but my cheap streak came out when faced with 19.98 worth of processing charges, so to get my $s worth I added some corals and a cleaning crew. By the time I knew what I'd done the order was up to $550. This is an EVIL hobby.

For the most part, I think that SWF.com actually does a good job of packaging as well. If it's really chilly outside, I believe they add a couple of heat packets.
