well, its official
the freshwater crew has headed back to my lfs for that pathetic return we call "store credit" the UV should be here any day now.
what is the best way to hook it up to my fluval 304?
also, what is the best media selection to do with saltwater? my last saltwater tank was an eclipse 29g, and all i had was the pad with the carbon built into it, and i had unbelievable success until the long nose butterfly got in there. should i stick with the standard carbon/ammonia remover/bio max set up? i would think not, because the lr and ls should be the "replacement" of the bio max? if true, then this leaves an open media basket in my cannister. would some lr rubble in a filter bag be good in there?

You can connect the uv sterilizer to the return line of the canister filter.
You can run the filter pads and all that, but just rinse it out bi-weekly..
the carbon, you should only run a few days once a month, because if you leave it in, the carbon will start to take out your trace elements.
that empty space would be good just how it is, so you can have a water/air reacting spot..

its going to be a fowlr, so do i still need to worry about trace elements as much as a reef?
also, should i just run the cannister with the pad for mechanical, and the ammonia remover for chemical? i still have to trays left to put goodness in, so would a bag of of lr rubble be good for the top tray? that would give me biological, also

thinking about it....

i would not want to run the ammonia remover during the cycle, since i want the ammonia to spike and drop... correct?
when cycle is over, then put in the ammonia remover media to help maintain a zero level, correct?

To get your nitrogen cycle started put a few flakes in your tank, then remove it when the cycling is done..do you have test kits?
I dont like running any type of media besides carbon once in a while..I depend on the natural bacteria to do the processes for me.
