i think you are gonna have a much better time with corals and warm water fish if you took the tank up to 78-80 degrees and got rid of the catalina goby. its a AWESOME FISH but they just arent made for the tropical aquarium. its a trade off and you got to make the decision. nice tank and nice fish tho!

Most of the "beginner corals" I've been reading about can handle
water temp's between 72 and 78 degrees.
Not sure if I'm ready for anything exotic.

nice set up but the catalina should probably be reconsidered.. Ideally the tank temps should be in the 60's. 74 is probably the absolute max it can survive and with that 70w HQI I'm suprised you arent having difficulty maintaining 74deg. Your at a temp that is at the bare minimum for the tropical stuff you keep or want to keep yet absolute max for the catalina. that leaves very little room for era or fluctuations.

aquapod is made by current-usa. 12 or 24 gallon.
