Jawfish will make themselves a home usually by burrowing under the sand next to a rock. Also you need to make sure you have a tight fitting lid, because they will jump, especially when startled.

Thanks for the advice guys, I actually have a 180 acrylic, its all closed in so I don't think I'll have a problem with him jumping out!

i just got a yellow headed jawfish. very cool fish to watch. he has dug up the sand in all four corners of my 75. imo they are one of the neater fish to have in any set up. hth.
 
I definitely agree. I got a pearly jawfish right here from SWF. He stayed hid for about a week while digging his burrow. He took some of the extra hermit crab shells and actually built his home up to the bottom of my heater with sand and shells all around the top. He peeks from his burrow to see when its feeding time then methodically tracks his food till he knows its safe to get it and then swims backward to his home to wait for more!! Very interesting to watch. Id like to find a few other fish with a definite personality like him.
