JBJ HQI 28g Lighting ?

Have you guys seen this kit? Pretty nice setup that I am thinking of getting soon. It has 150w 14K HQI lighting. Seems like a nice amount of light for this tank. Initially, I only plan to keep zoos, shrooms, etc (mostly soft corals). My question is is this light TOO bright for them? I plan on some SPS, etc later on, and would like to purchase what I need up front. Suggestions / comments?

its not too bright at all. just start off with less light demanding corals at the bottom, and move them up over time. or put a screen mesh between the light and the tank.

I have that kit and I LOOOOOOVE it. Freaken SWEET! You need a chiller though. I am actually going to add 2 18w Actinics after christmas also for a grand total of 196w weeeeeee!!!!

Yeah? What chiller are you using? Do you have pix of your complete setup? If so, I'd love to see them! I found the tank / stand combo online for 499, so I think I'm gonna pull the trigger. It's been about 5 years since my last SW tank...I've always have FOWLRs, so this will be my first attempt at a reef type tank.

I will get some pics up for you at my lunch time, it also is smart to get the upgrade at the beginning. I wish I would have. It would have saved me money in the long run.

Yea im thinking of buying this tank too, but i was wondering how the evaporation is on it and a chiller is a must i guess whats the temp of ur room u r keeping the tank in? also how long can it last with out putting fresh water in to sub in for the evaporation? i also want a refugium b/c i hear its so great for reef tanks and was wondering how to add one for this system? =P

I want this setup too. I had a 12g nanocube deluxe and never had problems with. I sold it last year when I moved though. What's the cheapest price anybody's found?? Cheapest i've found is 479.00 plus shipping.

i want to add a refugium is it possible to add a AQUA-FUGE 2 HANG-ON
REFUGIUM Small by CPR
Aquatic to the back of it? also i found it for like 550 with stand and shipping?

I am great at electric wiring and stuff so I am just taking apart the hoods putting in internal ballasts and just a quick drill for the power cable and your done. With my hqi hood I have NO evap...literally none. I have not topped off water in like 3 months. Weird I know, but true. Oh and the lights cost about 60 bucks totall.

WoW peef really b/c i have a 10 gallon tank that i set up as a experiment before i dive head first into this wonderful hobby, i notice i have to top of the water every 3 dayz or so b/c it goes way below the water line, currently i have no fish in it just runing no animals in it lmao, well when i get this jbj tank im hoping i don't get a rediculous amount of evap from the halide heating up the water, plus i have a reptile tank that add to the temp in my room so i was wondering if u can find out how much ur temp is in the room u keep the tank, so i can judge the evap. Also i was wondering whats the best chiller to get and y do i need it in the first place is the halide really heating up that badly=P

I just sold one used but it looked brand new. $350 w/ stand. They say it will stay under 82 in a 75 degree room? An additional fan on the back would probably knock off a degree or two. I thought they were very nice set ups and the down draft skimmer actually worked pretty well.

Lmao Grumpygirls wow i would of bought that from u at that price in a sec man that would get me a tank right now instead of me waiting a couple of monthz till i kno i have enough money for the tank and Real Life expenses. if anyone is selling the jbj 28 gallon with stand for cheap omg i would buy it in a heart beat

Well, I actually never tried to run it without the chiller to see where the temp would stay. But, I like to keep my tank right at 76 constant so I definetly needed a chiller for that. The halides do run very very hot, if they didn't have the four exhaust fans i am sure your tank would get up to 100+ in a heartbeat. I use the Arctica nano chiller. It is awesome and is silent. I don't even notice when it turns on.
