I recieved my 12 gallon JBJ Nano Cube today from FedEx.. not good. The front is busted out.
But I did finally manage to get a peak at the back chambers and really need help.
The replacement is on its way.. this time from UPS
Chamber:
1.) Sponge Filter
2.) Ceramic Rings, Activated Carbon, Bio-Balls
3.) Pump
I need help w/ 1 and 2
I know to switch the pump out with a maxi-jet 900, but what have y'all done with your first and second chambers?
Any
help appreciated

Here are teh basic Mods, If you havent drilled your tank, drill a hole into chamber 1, put a small pump back there, smaller than the maxi-jet, and then plumb it through, basically its like a closed loop (great mod) also, peel back teh vinyl covering teh back of teh tank over chamber 2, put a light back there, fill chamber 2 with LR and Cheat and bingo! you have a refuge.

I am curious why they supply ceramic rings with these tanks.. unless you plan on going fresh water and not marine.. The salt water makes the ceramic rings usless as far as getting rid of ammonia.

Any other mods to consider. I came across the nanotuners website today as well and I am going to update the wiring for the led moonlights so that they will run separate and may add another pc ballast and do a dawn/dusk affect.
I took out all the foam and biostuff. Do I need to save any of it? I am never going to do a fw tank. Also to wash out the tank since the bio stuff left a nice coating of dust, do I just rinse it out I take it? I want to try to get the tank ready soon. My lfs is having a big sale this weekend on everything including lr.

yep, i just took out everything that came in the back. first chamber i put LR rubble in the bottom and bag of carbon in the top. second chamber i put more LR rubble in the bottom and then put the heater in there. third chamber is just the MJ 900, it takes up a little more space than the stock one so i dont put anything else in there. i modded a hydor rotating deflector to the output of the pump on the back wall. i also scrapped the hood and built my own, i put 3 24 watt pcs and 2 fans in it. another little mod is the skimmer mod. there is a guy on here that use to make a very nice surface skimmer but i dont remember who it is. you can do it yourself by using a dremel and cutting a small rectangle above the top inlet on the left side of the back wall. i then glue a piece of black plastic grid to the back of it for a nice clean look. it works very good but probably not as well as the guy on here who actually builds them. let me know if you have any other questions.

Ok, so the cube came cracked, new one is on its way. I was sitting in my dining room and I was dying to get a closer look, so I popped off the top, and found these..

What do you need as far as the plumging supplies to install the second pump? Is there a website that gives instructions. I am a little hesitant drilling any holes in my new tank. Don't want to make any mistakes.

I noticed that the 12G only comes with one powerhead for flow, is there anywhere I can get two heads for flow? (the little black thing the flows the water in a certain direction)

As I stated Above, Just drill into the first chamber, Put small Pump in there, silicone some vinyl tubing in thre, then trace into Locline.

You just drill into plastic, easy and best of all reparable, no no real directions anywhere I know of. So heres a more detailed explanantion: Drill a hole near the base of the first chamber, in the plastic that connects the display from the internal sump, put a small pump attached to some vinyl tubig in the first chamber and thread the vinyl through the hole. Then Seal the hole by siliconeing around the vinyl. Then Buy an adaptor, and Transverse from vinyl to some locline. This

Okay so, I got the replacement today, but the LED on the right side flickers, and then goes out..
could this be a simple connection problem, or a total electric default with the lights?
anyone have this problem?

Thanks.. I switched lids with the cracked one. Hahahah..
I don't think its gonna hurt.. now the whole system has something messed up about it :p
I wet tested it yesterday, and in the chambers, the bio-balls were on the bottom, then ceramic rings, then activated carbon.
I put the carbon on the CR on the bottom, AC in the middle, and bio balls on top.. I dont think it matters because Im switching it out with live rock
Is there anything else I can put in the chambers besides chaeto? I don't have a light back there and don't want to crape anything off..

New pump in chamber 3, maxijet 900, umm, hmm, you might as well remove the bio balls and ceramic rings now, to avoid a system bacterial shock later on, umm google sapphire nanoskimmer, click on the nano-customs link. They have them for nanocube 12 as well. Decent skimmer so Ive heard. You put that in teh first chamber. OH yeah, replace the sponges in chamber 1 with filterfloss.

whats the difference in sponges and filter floss?
and the tank came with a "skimmer" that worked better than I thought it would.
I'm trying to save the parents money.. I went broke with freshwater fish, so they are buying the saltwater tank
