I like it works great. I sold my 2 current lights and got this light.
At aquatraders they sell the 4x65 PC light for only 99 bucks..thats where I got my MH fixture. I think for the money they are great.

I'm looking at this at aquatraders for $99. Looks great. 2 questions for you:
How do you add the 2 Metal halides?
Also, I'm getting good light for the first time - how would this compare to getting T5's? Would 4 T5's be the same as the 4x65 PC's?
Thanks

Perfect. Thanks a lot. best part is that on aquatraders it's $30.00 cheaper than the online auction place.

So the 4x65 pc is $99 and the MH fixture that you are talking about is $359?
Is there a way to add MH to the $99 fixture instead of paying $359?
Thanks

no..You cant add it. the one for 99 is just a PC light fixture. the one I got is a combo hood. MH and PC
I mean you can put a 2nd light on the tank thats just halides. but you would have to get the Coralife one or the current Sunpod. they are expensive.
if you got a fixture of 4 T5HO that would be much better then PC. I am not 100% sure what the aquatrader ones are..they say T6 but also says they are 216w for 4..thats the same as the 48" 54w T5 bulbs. I think you can use T5 in those lights. But they are single reflector. The good ones are the TEK and aquatinics with the individual reflectors. also Hellolights has a 48" 4bulb T5HO fixture with individual reflectors for around $250 that would be WAY better then PC

Thanks. good info.
Just wondering - what is the average life on the different types? CF vs MH vs t5HO?
In other words, how ofter do you need to change the different types? I think I remember reading that the T5's last a lot longer than the rest.
Is there a general rule about which one will require the least expense yearly but will still provide great lighting? Thus the best investment overall?
Sorry for all the Q's - new to this.

MH last around 8-10months i believe. PC last around a year and T5 last about 18-24months.
I was dead set on getting the TEK 48" 6bulb T5 light...but I ended up really wanting the shimmer effect you get with MH so thats why i got them.

Wow - so the T5's last a bit longer - so even though more expensive initially, maybe cheaper in the long run.
Thanks

yea..T5's are great asl long as its the T5Ho and individual reflectors.
They also use less electricity and are not as hot.

Man, just got off the phone with HelloLights. They are awesome - good deals on their own lights also - similar (they say "if not better") to TEK and Geisemann and a bit cheaper. Are they the best source in your opinion?
I'm probably going to go with a T5 retro kit with either 4 or 6 T5's (because I have a hood on my tank 4ft x 13in with about 47in x 12in of room for lights). Thanks again for all your help.

what size tank do you have a 55g
if so i would get the 4bulb. I think 6bulbs might end up being 2 wide. what do u wanna keep. I am pretty sure you should be able to keep just about anything with 4bulb T5Ho retro in a 55g.

I have a 55 - 4' wide, 2' high, 13" deep. According to HelloLights, their retro t5's are 2" wide including housing - so my 12" hood may squeeze in 6 of them - and obviously would take 4 easily.
I'm not sure what I will try to keep eventually. I like zoos and what not. I'm told that I'll need more (like 6x T5's) for acropora and anenomes? I'm still getting familiar with what options there are.

So you say you went with a MH also b/c of the shimmer? so this looks better than the T5 in your opinion? I'm going to be spending 240 for 4 T5's - wondering if it would be worth the $359 for your fixture.

hate to butt in , but if I were you I would go ahead and spend the extra $100 and get the mh fixture. Then you can keep anything you want in that tank with no problems. The newer fixturs are awesome...I have had mine for about a year and I love it. Plus the mh shimmer effect is awesome.
one thing to check first though is the width of the fixture, the new ones are wide. check to make sure it will fit on a 13'" deep tank

yes..its VERY wide.the fixture is 15" wide and on my 75g the legs pretty much are at each end. I think for a 55g you would need to hang the light

I guess I should add though - the big fixture won't fit in my hood - so I'll have to go with the retro MH's if I want MH in there too. Hellolights does have a retro 250w for $135. Decisions, decisions
