I listen to a lot of what is listed. My comment is more towards why music is now the way it is. In part due to perception. The following quote is an example.

For me the Top 3 Metal Drummers would go like This Nicco Mc Brain from Iron Maiden Peter Criss of Kiss and Tommy Lee of Motley Crrue. Lars if you took away that double bass he is useless.
Here is why. The first thing that sticks out to me is the Lars Comment. Lars (during the time) was/is one of the best drummers to get behind the kit. His tempo management and difference in time from his feet and his hands is what does this. The comment about taking away his double bass and he sucks is as asinine as saying Take away Jimmy Hendrix distortion guitar and he sucks. That is why they are/were great. Their innovation.
Nicco McBrain, while a solid drummer, basically plays the same thing in every song. Peter criss....come on...everyone knows KISS is big because of their live performances...not their musicianship...they have never been stellar musicians..2/2 and 4/4 time is standard drumming. Tommy Lee I can give some credit too...but when you compare him to other drummers, he doesn't hold the same candle. The drummers listed...are drummers in bands that put on a great VISUAL performance.
There was another comment about early Metallica being the music they made in the early 90's.....uh no...that is when they changed...and became packaged radio crap. Early Metallica is from the 1980's.
