Joncat: Plumbing Sump Assistance

I have heard, and I have seen your work done for piping and sumps and I was wondering if you would be able to help me redo mine. The setup right now is working but not is not as efficient as I would like to see. I can putup pics but they are sad. I have hoses running from the overflow to the sump and hoses running from the return to the display(Yes i know its sad). Help me if you can please!

i forgot to add how embarrassed for having tubing used for my return that is epoxied to my tanks professionally drilled holes. :(

When I moved the tank all of the old epoxy came right off, and I used the same stuff to reinstall the tubes. but I don't know what bulk heads are... the holes or the tubes?

this is a bulkhead, it allows for connecting two pieces of pvc together with a gasket through the glass.

I see that there are no bulkheads,,,,which is what scared me.
You would have to drain the overflow chamber, remove all of the epoxy, and fit bulkheads into the holes to do the plumbing right. Which is why I emailed for the exact hole sizes.

I have no idea for the exactly hole sizes and here is the worst part: I don't have tools and I don't think there are any measuring equipment in the house... on top of the fact that I would have to drain the overflow to remove the epoxy and tubing to measure it.
Is my thought process correct?

Take something and put it up against your overflow to stop flow from going over the sides, which should drain your overflow box (ie. a piece of acrylic). Once the box is drained I would just shut the system down for a little bit (dont want to burn your pump up) and take all of that epoxy out of the hole (along with the hosing). After you remove all of the epoxy and hosing you can get an accurate measurement of the hole (they go in 1/8 inch increments I believe) and buy a bulkhead that will properly seal the hole. It should take long to get the bulkhead in and get everything hooked back up, so your system wont be down that long. You could always hook up an air line to your powerheads to get some aeration going in the mean time. Good luck.

Thank you for the advice. Joncat and I have already decided on a solution and we will be taking care of it next weekend. MANY THANKS to Joncat!!!

Good Luck Jon, hopefully it comes out as good as you done mine!!!! Brandon has seen it and has proof you are the plumbing man!!!!! Just don't let the crack out!!!!
