Jumping eels

I went downstairs a little bit ago to find my white ribbon eel on the floor. He has never done this before and I am not sure why he did. All my parameter's seem ok seeing how I did a 15 gallon water change on a 90 gallon tank.
Nitrate-60
Nitrite-2.0
Ph-8.0
Salinity-1.022
This is the first eel I have kept (and maybe not the best choice) but any and all advice is welcomed (even criticism). His tank mates are a porcupine puffer, dogface puffer and a cortez stingray (yes I know too small of a tank for now). He was the second one added and is eating very well.

All eels are known jumpers, it may have nothing to do with your tank. A cover is a must when you keep eels.

Go to home depot and buy some white egg crate stuff. You will find it in the light section. It is used as covers for fluorescent lights. Makes a great cover and yeah I am sure you heard but way way to small of tank.

Ok I will look into the egg crate thing. I ordered a cover last night and should be here in a week. The sting ray was an impulse buy but I think we are going to jump up to a 300 gal tank just for him.

Sting rays will jump too.....I had one and it did even with egg crate...you need some weight up there
AND A nitrite reading of 2 is very bad.....Nitrites are toxic
HAVE you checked your ammonia?????

With the ribbons, I have had excellent luck making an acrylic "lip". It's a rectangle frame of acrylic, about six inches wide around the perimeter. I made it myself ;) and it sits onto the inside lip of the tank out of sight.
Since installing it in my tanks, I have not had any escapees or carpet surfers.
If you watch the ribbons try to escape, they nose to the corner, throw up a loop of their body, and slurp out. This way they nose to the corner or the sides but can't throw part of their body up and over.
It's my invention!

do you have any pictures of this lip that I can see? That sounds like something I might try out.

I know people say that puffers and rays dont mix but I have not had any issues with them at all. My dogface and my ray eat off of the same piece of clam at the same time and dont bother one another.

I had just done a 15 gal water change so I didnt think that the levels where that bad. I need to buy an ammonia kit, mine does not have it on it.
My ray acts like she wants to jump out but never does.

Definitely get an ammonia kit.....usually...ammonia is first....then it turns to nitrites...then nitrates....nitrates are not toxic to fish, BUT the others are
You might want to make up some more water and get those levels down asap
also...you will notice the ray will go up and down the sides of the tank.....as it gets bigger...it will get faster and stronger, and BOOM....outta the tank....LOL...SCARED the crap outta me when it happened too
